Q & A

What will we learn during each 5 or 6 week course?

During each 5 or 6 week session you will learn a simple routine of steps, easy enough so you can practise them at home and build your confidence. At the start of each session we will also provide you with a FREE video link by email so you can review them at your leisure.

Do I need any special clothing or footwear?

Regular dancers tend to wear specialist dance shoes, but for beginners this is not necessary. Wearing comfortable clothing that will allow you to stretch and move easily is suggested. When you do decide to buy your first pair of dance shoes we can point you in the right direction.

What happens after the first 5 week session?

After you have completed your first 5 week course we will run further 5 week sessions and your entire class will normally stay together for at least 6 months. As your confidence grows you will learn other short dance routines and eventually you will know the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing Jive, Rock’n’Roll, Salsa and a few sequence dances.

What sort of music is used in our classes?

All types – from chart releases to elegant waltzes, including Meghan Trainor, Ed Sheeran and Olly Murs to name a few.

So once you know the basic steps can we go out dancing?

You need to learn a few dance rhythms and steps to be able to attend a dance night and this is when you really start to enjoy dancing. We organise our own dance nights in the Leeds 15 area and we also organise weekend dance breaks to popular locations throughout the UK, including the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

What happens if I haven’t got a partner?

Unfortunately, you’ll need to check with us before attending a class as we are unable to dance with everyone when we are teaching, but sometimes we are able to partner people up, so best to check with us first. Friends often come along and dance together, it’s good fun.

What about fitness?

Dancing is an ideal way to improve your fitness in a fun way without having to do anything too strenuous….as the saying goes, if you can walk you can dance. You don’t need to be particularly fit, but as always if in doubt check with your doctor first.

Sounds good so how can I get started?

We usually start new dance classes around November through to January each year, but it is best to check with us. You can register with us at any time and we will contact you when classes come available. We also have a Facebook page www.facebook.com/enjoydancingleeds where you can follow our classes. Private lessons are always an alternative option. Ring us on 0113 273 6885 for more information.
